The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in partnership with the Northern Regional Coordinating Council and MMDCEs in the region held a sensitization workshop on coronavirus for market women in Northern Region.
The workshop which was held today, Monday, 23rd March, 2020 at the Tamale Metro Assembly was intended to sensitize the market women on the COVID-19 pandemic and its subsequent measures issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Ghana Health Service and the president, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo.
The market women were also briefed on where the outbreak started, how it spreads from animals to humans, and from a human being to another.
As there can’t be problem without measures to avert it’s continuation, Hon. Hajia Alima Mahama, The minister for Local Government and Rural Development, took the women through the preventive measure by demonstrating to them how they should wash their hands every time, even before they enter into the market, how they should use the hand sanitizer after washing and patting their palms dry, and also avoid embracing each other in an open arms when they want to show pleasantries.
They were urged to practice social spacing and devote themselves seriously into fasting and Prayers for everyone including themselves.
As part of measures to prevent the spread of the novel Coronavirus, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, delivered sets of Hand washing buckets, Basins, Liquid Soaps, Hand Sanitizers and Hand towels to the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to distribute it among the various Districts across the region, so that they can put them at the entrance of every market to help in prevent the spread of the CORONAVIRUS in our local communities.
Meanwhile, Tamale Metro Assembly has also formed a task force to help in the fight against Covid-19.
