The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South is Michael Okyere Baafi. He has issued an unexpected apology to all Ghanaians. This follows his party’s defeat in the Akwatia by-election.
The apology comes after his earlier pledge. He promised to step down from his parliamentary role if his party lost the vote. This vote took place on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The loss to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sparked significant pressure on Baafi to honor his Pr-election commitment. This situation reflects expectations of accountability and integrity.
However, instead of resigning, Baafi quickly backtracked. He expressed regret during an interview with Asaase Radio. This occurred well before the Electoral Commission officially confirmed the NDC’s victory.
“I may have gone too far in hindsight,” Baafi admitted. “I apologize to Ghana.” He explained that his bold pledge was driven by the excitement surrounding his party’s campaign in the constituency. The enthusiastic support from NPP backers, who turned out in large numbers, also motivated him.
