Do i look like a Supreme Leader? – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama assured Ghanaians on Wednesday that he has no ambitions to rule as a “supreme leader,” emphasizing a commitment to inclusive governance despite his administration’s parliamentary majority.

During a Meet the Press, Bernard Avle directly asked if he aspired to become a supreme leader, Mahama responded with humor, quipping, “Looking at me, do I look like a supreme leader?”

The remark drew chuckles from the audience and panelists, as Mahama drew a parallel to his late mentor, former President John Evans Atta Mills.

He recalled Mills’ iconic 2011 response to questions about alleged judicial interference, where the late president famously asked, “Do I look like a cat hunter?” – a playful deflection that became a hallmark of Mills’ down-to-earth style.

The assurance comes amid the NDC’s commanding majority in the 8th Parliament following the December 2024 elections, which has raised eyebrows among opposition voices about the balance of power.

Mahama’s comments appears to aim at easing fears of one-sided decision-making, signaling a willingness to engage constructively with the minority New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other stakeholders.

lets keep engaging
