Kofi Akpaloo, the leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) at his Kumasi residence on September 3, 2025.
The arrest occurred during a dawn operation by EOCO’s Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) of the Ashanti Regional Office.
Family sources confirm authorities took him to Accra for investigations. However, they have not disclosed the reasons for his detention. Additionally, his current whereabouts stay unclear.
EOCO has not issued an official statement, and attempts to reach the agency have been unsuccessful.
Kofi Akpaloo actively promotes liberal economic policies and has made controversial statements, including his defence of LGBTQI+. He has previously criticized EOCO for selective investigations.
The arrest has raised concerns among Akpaloo’s supporters. There is speculation about possible links to government contracts. He acknowledged receiving these contracts under the former Akufo-Addo administration. Authorities continue investigating as they await further details.
