Youth Seeking Economic Justice Over Election Wins

Dr. Chukwuemeka Eze, Director of Democratic Futures in Africa says youth are prioritizing economic justice over election outcomes.

Speaking on Pm express on Joynews, he highlighted a significant shift in the continent’s political dynamics, emphasizing that young people are more focused on systemic change than electoral victories.

“In the recent past, you begin to notice that we are moving away gradually from electoral violence to what now happens in between elections, and that’s where economic justice comes to place,” Dr. Eze told host Evans Mensah.

He explained that this shift marks a departure from traditional political engagement, which was often driven by ideological battles, ethnic affiliations, or party loyalty.

“Politics used to be about political inclinations, ideology, and ethnicity,” he said. “But in recent times, when young people meet, they don’t meet as political parties but as people with the same needs and concerns.”

He underscored that this new focus reflects a collective demand for tangible improvements in areas like employment, equitable resource distribution, and basic services.

Young Africans, he noted, are uniting across divides to address shared challenges, sidelining partisan rivalries in favor of practical solutions to economic hardships.

Dr. Eze’s remarks resonate with a broader trend among Africa’s youth, who constitute over 70% of the continent’s population.

His insights point to a redefinition of political priorities, where the ballot box is secondary to the pursuit of a more equitable society.

lets keep engaging
